YOUNGSTERS MAKE STRONG SHOWING
AT TCFA JUNIOR FED BEEF CHALLENGE
With 36 contestants engaged in competition, the bright future of cattle feeding was on display at the 2007 TCFA Junior Fed Beef Challenge held recently at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. The annual event, sponsored by the Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA), allows 4-H and FFA students the opportunity to pursue scholarships and other honors while they gain practical experience in commercial cattle feeding.
In the Senior Division, Megan Roth of The Woodlands, Tex. won Overall Champion and a $2,000 college scholarship. Khaki Scrivner of Turkey, Tex. and Clayton Gardner of Estancia, N.M. tied for the Overall Reserve Champion and will each receive a $1,500 college scholarship. Michael Edwards of Conroe, Tex. was First Runner-Up and will receive a $1,000 college scholarship. Clayton Gardner also won Top Rookie in the Senior Division.
In the Junior Division, Ann Freeman of Texhoma, Okla. took home top honors as the Overall Champion. Will Noble of Dalhart, Tex. was named Top Rookie for the Junior Division.
The Team Challenge contest was captured by Collingsworth County, Tex. 4-H as their teams swept the contest. The team of Kristen Odom and Bailey Long took first place team honors, followed by Jared Warrick and Zachary Odom in second and Trey Long and Jack Odom in third.
